Toys – how we relate to them and the memories and connections we make, both positive and negative, have played an immeasurable role in contemporary culture. Toys never completely lose their original purpose, but it is this familiarity of the toy that enlivens and enhances the dialogue between the artist and the viewer. WAC announces a new call for entries for selected photographs to be framed and exhibited at “The Warhol Ball – A Night at The Factory” on April 28, 2012. The work will be for sale in a silent auction and the proceeds will benefit the Westport Arts Center. With inspiration from the Pop Movement and its artists, like Warhol, the photographic entries should in some way depict popular culture today. Each artist may submit up to two photographs for consideration. Both color and black and white are welcome. Eligibility is open to anyone who is a current member of the Westport Arts Center through April 28, 2012, or becomes one by the submission deadline of Friday, March 23. There is no submission fee other than the membership requirement. About the Juror Helen Klisser During is Director Visual Arts at the Westport Arts Center. Also a private art advisor, photographer, and curator, Klisser During has curated over 200 exhibitions. As a professional photographer, she has had photographs published in The Art Market Report, Art New Zealand Magazine, Connecticut Cottages and Gardens, Hamptons Cottages and Gardens, artforum.com, NYCgo.com, and westportnow.com.

“Meet the Filmmaker” during a screening of the 1968 animated film “Yellow Submarine,” with music by The Beatles.
The film was produced by Weston Resident, Al Brodax, who will introduce this award-winning work and speak to the audience about its production. The evening & discussion will be moderated by Sumner Jules Glimcher, emeritus professor of New York University.
The night will also include live music, food, and art, all in support of the Westport Youth Film Festival.
